Sam Burton is a writer, researcher, and strategist focusing on culture, identity, technology — and the spaces where they collide.
Sam is also the founder of Whose Data, an open source project to help Canadians find out who owns — and what options we have to control — data collected about us.
Sam identifies as a mixed race cis-gendered woman and first generation Canadian. Her hometowns are Toronto and Scarborough, where she grew up daughter to a white father who immigrated from England; a Jewish stepmum who also immigrated from England; and a Chinese mother who immigrated from Trinidad.
Sam can usually be found writing next to a cortado, sharing ideas on Twitter (on weekdays) and good books on Read More Fiction (on weekends), cooking elaborate meals with her partner, and tying figure-eight knots in a climbing gym.
